What Is PRP Treatment And Can It Help Reverse Hair Loss?

When it comes to treatments to remove hair from unwanted places, a laser skin clinic offers many nonsurgical options, as well as options for restoring skin and reversing the effects of hair loss.

One of the most interesting of these is PRP restoration, an injectable treatment that concentrates the body’s own healing capabilities as found in the blood and takes full advantage of it for cosmetic purposes.

It is used clinically to help with certain muscle and joint injuries and become a favourite of athletes but has become increasingly popular as a cosmetic treatment for smoothing skin, reducing the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and even reversing the effects of pattern baldness.

All of this comes from an injectable substance taken from your own body.

How it works is that some blood is taken from your body before it is put into a centrifuge to separate the platelets and plasma from the other blood cells. This collection is then mixed with an anticoagulant before being injected into the body wherever it is needed.

Used on the face, it is sometimes known as a “vampire facial”, but it has increasingly been used to help reduce the effects of hair loss.

The theory behind this is that the growth factors in platelets stimulate dermal papilla cells, which in turn help stimulate hair growth and regrowth.

Because of this, it works differently from common hair loss treatments such as minoxidil, which works by making blood vessels on the scalp open up more, allowing more blood to flow through it and thus bringing more oxygen and nutrients to the follicles.

Much like minoxidil, it can take several months for results to appear along with regular treatments, something your cosmetic expert will help discuss with you.

However, some people have had dramatic results from PRP despite being a non-invasive treatment that has no downtime.
